On February 8, 2020, the latest incarnation of the XFL kicked off, with the rebooted league taking the nation by storm. The DC Defenders walked into the field against the Seattle Dragons with 3.3 million people tuning in to watch some off-season American football.
The ratings obscured the AAF’s official opening week, giving hope that this time around, the XFL is here to stick. In Week 2, TV ratings for XFL on ABC kept steady as well. Analysts posted 2.262 million average viewers with the audience peaking at 3.381 million.
Meanwhile, AAF’s ratings collapsed from close to 3 million viewers all the way down to 1.018 million on TNT and 424,000 on the NFL Network. Apparently, interest has shifted unambiguously towards the semi-professional XFL. Sports TV Ratings posted a quick update, breaking down the numbers for each game.
Things continued to look up for the league in Week 3, with the competition doing exceptionally well compared to college basketball, hockey, and soccer. The numbers once again reinforce the idea that football is indeed a preferred American pastime.
Are the XFL Numbers Misleading?
Yet, not everyone is convinced that the XFL dwarfing the AAF actually translates into a bright future for the American football off-season reboot. Michael Colangelo from USA Today shared his reasons for concerns.
He dismissed any lower number caused by lower viewership on cable, as heexplained that people most often don’t have access to it, which is true. Yet,according to Colangelo, the far graver issue that the XFL is facing, though, isthe fact the league has lost half of its Week 1 audience.
The XFL could try to sign more broadcasting partnerships, but there is no guarantee that companies would bulge and approve the deal. Another possible cause for worry is how the public perceives the XFL. If the public is led to believe that the XFL’s numbers are in decline, fans will also be far less likely to invest time and interest as well.
Viewership Still High with Ratings Taking a Mild Dip
Interest in the league is still steady and the average viewershipnumbers remain above the one-million threshold. Every game in Week 3 waswatched by at least 1 million average spectators with the Dallas and Seattlegame peaking to 2.051 million on Fox.
Meanwhile, the game between the LA Wildcats and the DC Defenders brought in another 1.004 million fans, Houston vs Tampa fetched 1.91 million on ABC, and Guardians vs St Louis raked in 1.47 million, all in Week 3.
With March Madness around the corner, it is understandable why college basketball may get a bit more of attention. The XFL viewership seems bound to continue fluctuating, with some fearing a further decline.
However, it’s most likely a matter of finding a dedicated viewer base and establishing good ratings so that advertisement revenue and partnerships can occasion the further growth of the off-season league.

The favorite is always listed with a minus (-) sign before the point-spread while the underdog is labeled with a plus (+) label.

How do I bet on the Super Bowl?
We know that you can bet on the Super Bowl and all of NFL Futures or bet on the NFL Draft at any time of the year, but whats the process? The future wager or the Odds to Win bet on the Super Bowl is correctly selecting a team to win an event that takes place at a later time. A bettor will have his wagered money tied up until there is an outcome and bettors will receive fixed odds when they place the wager. In the case of the Super Bowl, youre not a winner or loser until you see zeros on the clock in the final game.
Most sportsbooks offer different ways to read to Super Bowl Odds. In the fractional NFL Futures Odds format below, you simply take the odds and multiply by the amount wagered.
Ex. Green Bay (8/1) to win the Super Bowl
The Packers are listed as an 8/1 betting choice to win the Super Bowl. If you wager $100 on Green Bay to win the NFC and they capture the championship, then you would win $800 (8 ÷ 1 x 100). Your online betting account would then credit your account $900, which includes your win and stake ($100).
The American Format would see Green Bay listed at +800 and for the Decimal Format, the Packers would be 9.00.
