Genting Owner Lim

Genting Dream is a cruise ship of Dream Cruises. She was initially ordered as Genting World for Star Cruises. The ship is designed for the Asian cruise market.

  • Genting, a multibilliondollar Malaysia-based empire, is helmed by Lim Kok Thay whose son and Tatler cover star, Loui Lim, is executive vice-president of new ship designs for Genting Cruise Lines (which includes Star Cruises, Dream Cruises and the ultra-luxury Crystal Cruises) and vice-president of leisure and hospitality for Genting Malaysia.
  • Lim’s family trust, Kien Huat Realty, already owned 51% of Empire Resorts before the entire acquisition. The remaining 49% stake is now under the control of Genting Malaysia, and will see the company going private once more.

Lim Goh Tong is a deceased Malaysian-Chinese businessman and billionaire who is famous for his extraordinarily risky and successful development of gambling in Malaysia. He may not have much in the way of name recognition in the United States, but he played a pivotal role in developing gaming in Asia.

The ship has a length of 335.33 metres (1,100 ft 2 in), a width of 39.7 metres (130 ft 3 in), a size of 150,695 GT, and a top speed of over 23 knots (43 km/h; 26 mph).[1]

The construction of Genting Dream, the first ship of the cruise brand, Dream Cruises, was completed on 12 October 2016, and the vessel sailed from Papenburg, Germany the next day.

History[edit]

Genting Dream was ordered in October 2013 for Star Cruises[3] and it should debut for Star Cruises as Genting World. Construction began on 9 February 2015[4] and on 19 August 2016 she was floated out of dry dock.[5]
