Deuces Wild is definitely the most popular form of wild-card video poker. In this game all deuces (twos) are wild cards and can be used as any card in the deck. This makes it much easier to make monster hands, so therefore the pay tables are much stingier than in Jacks or Better video poker. This article will explain the rules of Deuces Wild, and will also touch on the pay tables and proper strategy for the game.

Deuces Wild Rules
The rules of Deuces Wild are actually pretty simple. To get started, you insert your money into the machine. Then, you select how many coins you'd like to bet per hand. You can select between one and five coins, and we always recommend betting five coins because you'll receive a huge bonus if you happen to make a royal flush.
Push 'Deal' to start the hand. After you receive your cards, you choose which cards you'd like to hold by clicking on each one. You then click 'Draw' to receive your new cards. If you have three of a kind or better after the draw, you'll receive a pay out.
Pay Tables
Deuces Wild has significantly different pay tables than most other video poker games, mainly because the game has a wild card which improves players' odds of making a better hand. We'll show you a few of the most common pay tables now.
Full Pay Deuces Wild
Full pay Deuces Wild refers to Deuces Wild machines that offer the maximum pay table. Full pay games provide players with the best odds, although they are not guaranteed wins. Here is the pay table for a full pay Deuces Wild game:

Deuces Wild Strategy Card
Not so Ugly Deuces Wild
Not so Ugly is a deceptive pay table for Deuces Wild. Although Not so Ugly pays out more for Five of a Kind, a Straight Flush, and a Flush, it pays out less for Four of a Kind which actually makes it a worse pay table overall. Here is the Not so Ugly pay table:
Hand: | 1 Coin: | 2 Coins: | 3 Coins: | 4 Coins: | 5 Coins: |
Royal Flush (no wild card) | 250 | 500 | 750 | 1000 | 4000 |
Four Deuces | 200 | 400 | 600 | 800 | 1000 |
Royal Flush (w/ wild card) | 25 | 50 | 75 | 100 | 125 |
Five of a Kind | 16 | 32 | 48 | 64 | 80 |
Straight Flush | 10 | 20 | 30 | 40 | 50 |
Four of a Kind | 4 | 8 | 12 | 16 | 20 |
Full House | 4 | 8 | 12 | 16 | 20 |
Flush | 3 | 6 | 9 | 12 | 15 |
Straight | 2 | 4 | 6 | 8 | 10 |
Three of a Kind | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 |
Although Not so Ugly might seem like a better pay table, we've run the numbers and it's slightly worse overall. Make sure to stick to full pay (or as close as you can get to full pay).
Loose Deuces Wild Strategy
Low Pay Deuces Wild
Low Pay deuces wild is the worst pay table offered for this game. The payouts are pretty bad, and the best possible payout percentage is just over 97%. We recommend avoiding this game at all costs.

Royal Flush (w/ wild card) | 25 | 50 | 75 | 100 | 125 |

Deuces Wild Strategy
Deuces Wild requires different strategy than most video poker games because of the wild card. To maintain the best possible payout percentage while playing Deuces Wild you need to be using perfect Deuces Wild strategy. That is a topic of it's own, so we're just going to provide a few important tips here, and if you want to learn more you can read the article above.
- A pair on the initial deal is actually worth more than two pair, because two pair doesn't pay out. If you have two pair on the initial deal, you should only hold one pair in hopes of making three of a kind.
- Four to an inside straight flush is actually better than a made straight or a made flush. You're better off drawing to the straight flush than taking just the straight/flush payout.
- Four to a royal flush is actually better than a made straight flush or a made four of a kind. Since the royal flush payout is so big, you're better off drawing to that than taking the straight flush/four of a kind payout.
